What “Organic” Means Here
Organic steppers are cut with an irregular outline rather than to a square or round format. No two pieces are the same shape, so a path built from them reads as though the stones were found rather than ordered. That is the whole point of them. A row of identical circles looks like a product; a run of organic steppers looks like landscaping.
Each piece is sold individually rather than by the square metre, since you are buying a number of stones to space along a path, not a surface area to cover. Count your run and allow one stepper per pace, roughly 600mm centre to centre for a comfortable stride.
Laying Steppers in Lawn and Garden Beds
In lawn, set the top of each stepper flush with or slightly below the grass line so a mower can pass straight over. Dig the shape out, bed on 50mm of compacted sand or a dry mix, and check each stone sits without rocking. In garden beds and gravel the height matters less, but a stone that moves underfoot is still worth re-bedding.
Limestone steppers hold their texture over time and stay cool in sun, which is worth having on a poolside path. They will develop a soft patina outdoors, and most people prefer them unsealed for that reason.
Colour and Matching
Tuscan Beige is a warm sandy limestone, lighter than travertine and without travertine’s banding. It sits well against green planting and pale gravels. If the rest of your paving is Tuscan Beige, the steppers will match; the same stone appears in the Tuscan Beige paver range.
