From $25.90

Silver Grey granite pool copings, exfoliated, in four profiles: 400x400x20mm bullnose, 600x400x20mm bullnose, 600x400x30mm bullnose, and a 600x400x70/30mm drop edge. Sold per piece.

Bullnose or Drop Edge

This is the decision that matters, and Silver Grey is one of the few copings we stock in both, so it is worth explaining properly.

A bullnose coping is a flat piece with a rounded front edge. It sits on top of the pool shell and the shell or its render is visible below the coping line. It is the simpler and cheaper option, and it is what most pools use.

A drop edge coping is thicker at the front, 70mm here against 30mm at the back, so the front face drops down over the edge of the shell and hides it. The result reads as a solid slab of stone at the pool edge rather than a thin sheet sitting on a wall. On a raised pool, an infinity edge, or anywhere the pool wall is visible from the garden, it is a considerably better finish. It costs more and it is heavier to handle.

Look at the pool from where people will actually stand. If you can see the shell wall, a drop edge is worth the difference. If the pool is set flush into paving, a bullnose is all you need.

Why Grey Granite Around a Pool

Granite is unaffected by salt and chlorine, needs no sealing, and the exfoliated flame-treated face grips when wet. Silver Grey is a light salt-and-pepper grey, which puts it among the cooler-running granites underfoot, well short of a pale limestone but far more comfortable than a black stone.

Grey also stays neutral as the rest of the garden changes. It does not commit the pool area to a warm or cool palette the way a gold sandstone or a charcoal granite does.

If You Are Comparing to Highland Grey

Highland Grey is a similar light grey granite sold by other suppliers. Silver Grey sits in the same family. If you have a quote against Highland Grey, order a Silver Grey sample and compare them directly rather than going on the trade name, since grey granites vary between quarries more than the names suggest.

Matching and Supply

The same granite runs through Silver Grey pavers and tiles for the surround, and Ocean Grey cobbles sit close enough in tone for edging. The wider set is on the pool coping page and the granite range.

Copings bed on a full mortar bed with a 20 to 30mm overhang past the shell. We import direct into Melbourne, quote pool builders at crate rates, and arrange freight Australia wide. Samples are free.
