The Antique Finish and the Reclaimed Look
People searching for antique or reclaimed limestone paving are usually after one thing: a floor that does not look like it was laid last week. Navona’s antique finish is how you get there without hunting down salvaged stone. The tiles are tumbled to soften the arrises and lightly worn across the face, so a laid floor has the slightly uneven, settled quality of an old European interior.
The difference from genuinely reclaimed stone is consistency. Salvaged limestone comes in whatever thicknesses and conditions it comes in, and laying it is slow and expensive. Navona gives you the character with square dimensions and a known thickness, which your tiler will appreciate.
Colour
Navona runs cream to light honey with fine shell and fossil detail through it. It is warmer than Indiana White and paler than Tuscan Beige. In a room with old timber or exposed brick it settles in immediately; in a hard modern white interior it can look slightly out of place, which is worth thinking about before ordering.
Laying and Care
Because the surface is deliberately uneven, grout joints on an antique-finish tile want to be a little wider than you would use on a sawn tile, typically 3 to 5mm. A tight joint fights the character of the stone and shows every dimensional variation.
Seal before grouting. Limestone is porous and an unsealed antique face will hold grout in its worn areas permanently.
