Limestone Tiles Outdoors
A lot of people search for outdoor limestone tiles and land on a 12mm product, so it is worth being clear about where the thicknesses go. The 12mm tile is for interior floors, and for exterior applications where the tile is bonded to an existing concrete slab or a suspended deck that already carries the load. The 30mm paver is what you want for a patio or path built from scratch, and for anywhere vehicles cross.
Where 12mm does work outside, on a balcony over a slab for instance, Indiana White holds up well. Limestone handles UV without fading and the antique finish is textured enough to stay safe when it is wet.
The Colour
Indiana White is off-white rather than stark white, with fine fossil flecking running through it. That flecking is what stops a large pale floor reading as tile rather than stone. It sits comfortably with oak floors, white render and grey joinery, and it reflects light, which is the usual reason people choose it for a hallway or a north-facing living area.
The antique finish means the edges are softened and the face lightly worn. Scuffs and foot traffic marks do not show the way they do on honed white stone, which matters in a kitchen or an entry.
Sizes and Laying
Crates run from 10.88sqm up to 39.65sqm depending on size and thickness. Allow around 10 percent over your measured area for cuts. Limestone should be sealed before grouting on an interior floor, or the grout will stain the face at the joints. Any decent penetrating sealer will do the job.
French Pattern is a four-size repeating module rather than a single tile. It reads as a courtyard floor and suits open living areas where a plain grid would look flat. There is more on it on the French pattern page.
