The Warm Granite, on Stairs
Most granite stairs are grey or black. Honey Jesper, also spelled Honey Jasper, is the warm option, and it changes what the stairs go with: brick, sandstone, timber decks, cream render. The exfoliated texture is worked into the stone by flame, not applied, so the grip does not wear off, and granite itself is about the hardest-wearing stair material you can buy. It does not etch with acids the way marble does, so entry steps that cop spilt coffee and wet leaves stay unmarked.
Profiles and Parts
Bullnose treads carry a rounded front edge, softer looking and kinder to shins, the usual pick for garden flights and pool steps. Pencil edge is nearly square with just the corner eased, the profile for sharp contemporary work. Risers clad the vertical face between treads so the flight reads as solid stone. Pick one profile per flight and count one 1210mm tread per step on standard stairs, two with a centred joint on wide entries.
Fitting Notes for Trades and Confident DIYers
Bed treads on full adhesive coverage with no hollows under the nosing, keep nosing overhang consistent course to course, and check each tread for level across and minimal fall forward, 1 to 2mm for drainage on external flights. Granite this dense needs a good diamond blade for cuts; allow for that in time or in the tiler’s quote.
