Porphyry crazy paving is the strongest stone we sell in a random format. Porphyry is a dense volcanic rock, the same material used for street paving across Europe for centuries, and it shrugs off vehicle traffic, frost and heat without sealing. Pieces run roughly 200mm to 600mm across at 20 to 30mm thick.
The colour mix is what people buy it for. Expect earthy browns and rust reds with grey and plum through the blend, so no two areas lay up the same. It suits heritage style gardens, driveways and entries where a single flat colour would look too new.
Porphyry needs almost no upkeep. It does not need sealing, the colour is stable in UV, and the naturally split surface grips well when wet, which also makes it a workable pool surround stone in the right palette. Allow about 15 percent extra over your measured area for cutting. Free samples are available from this page, and the crazy paving range has lighter options if the warm tones are not right for your project.
