Cobblestones for a Driveway
A cobblestone driveway needs two things the brochure photos never mention: a proper base, and enough stone. Ocean Grey cobbles at 30mm go onto a reinforced concrete slab with adhesive, not straight onto road base. The slab carries the vehicle load and the cobbles are the wearing surface. Done that way the driveway will outlast the house.
For quantities, 30mm cobbles come 12sqm per crate in 100x100mm and 18sqm in 200x100mm. Add around 10 percent over your measured area for cuts at the edges and around drains. The 20mm option is for paths and courtyards where nothing heavier than a wheelbarrow crosses it.
Brick Bond Mats or Loose Setts
Brick bond supplies the cobbles pre-mounted on mesh mats. It lays several times faster than loose setts and keeps the joints even, which is why most driveway jobs use it. Loose setts cost less per square metre and let you fan the pattern into curves or radial arcs, but they take real time on site. Landscapers doing a formal driveway usually take the mats; anyone laying a curved garden path takes the loose.
Where Grey Granite Cobbles Work
Ocean Grey sits mid-grey with the fine speckle you get in granite, no blue or brown cast. It reads as neutral, so it borders warm travertine and pale limestone without a colour argument. If you want something darker, Raven Black and Mountain Black cover the charcoal end, and the full cobblestone range has the warmer stones.
